Our diverse flock of contented laying hens enjoy spending the winter months in the cozy shelter of a spacious polytunnel, scratching about in straw and helping make nexy year’s compost. They also have the added bonus of having access to a generously-sized yard and pockets of the forest garden. In the summer the whole egg flock is moved into our fields of mixed fruit trees in a moveable hen house (our Chickshaw) and rotate their way behind our goats and geese, grazing grass and hunting insects along the way whilst adding their fertility as they work.
In addition to raising them on certified organic chicken feed, we also supplement their diet with surplus fruits and vegetables sourced directly from our vegetable gardens and assorted orchards.
