 Permaculture Advisory & mentoring service

With over twenty years of dedicated experience studying and implementing Permaculture Design principles, we have actively supported and advised start-up market gardens, smallholdings, forest garden projects and private householders. We are eager to collaborate with you on your project and share our knowledge to help you achieve your goals.

We have been partaking in mentoring schemes (CSA Network UK), Advisory work (Farm Advisory Service Scotland) and delivering private consultancy for the past six years to people across the UK who are either interested in starting a market garden, small farm or forest garden and to people who have already started their project but just want to bounce a few ideas off of us. We also give permaculture advice to help people on their journey to their dream homestead and towards self-sufficiency.

With twelve years experience running our own permaculture designed small farm and five years of experience running a commercial market garden and popular CSA veg box scheme we are confident we will be able to help with any of your questions. We also just love a good chat and are very happy to listen to your ideas, stories or anything else you want to run by us.

We can provide advice and suggestions on the following:

  • What to look for when searching for and purchasing your dream Permaculture property or future smallholding

  • Pros and cons to various landforms

  • Appropriate farming ventures and enterprises to suit your farms terrain

  • Tree, shrub and vegetable species lists to suit your area and where to obtain them

  • Suitable livestock for your project and the infrastructure, equipment and other resources needed

  • Home dairying start up, produce and goat health

  • Appropriate tools for market gardening or small farming and where to source

  • Permaculture design basics and advice on choosing and developing the right systems for your project or small farm

  • How to manage data and collect records

  • How to market and sell your farms produce and what business model to choose

  • Working with social media and how to build your business/farms followers

We can also be a sympathetic ear to help you with any problems and to try and problem solve alongside you.

We can help you in several different ways:

On farm:

Come and visit our farm and working permaculture demonstration site and experience a ‘round the farmhouse table’ consultancy or advisory session. We can also include a tour of the farm to give you inspiration for your own land based projects.

Visiting your farm or project:

We can visit your site to have a good look around, hear your ideas and answer all your questions. We can provide feedback on your ideas and contribute our own thoughts and ideas to your project. Ideally this involves travelling within Aberdeenshire or the Highlands but we are open to considering travelling further afield.

Online/video call:

We can organise a Zoom, Skype or other video call to meet you and to answer any burning questions and provide feedback on your ideas.

Costs:

For all of the above services we charge £250 for a full day or £40 per hour.

To get in touch please use the contact form below, providing a contact email address, an explanation of your project, your location and what advice you are looking for. We look forward to hearing from you and helping you in whatever way we can.
